Freelance Contractor - Korean to English Remote / Content Support / Contractor Tapas is the "YouTube for storytellers" an open-publishing platform and home to a community of more than 58,000 creators. We've published over 89,000 stories to date. We specialize in publishing original stories in the form of serialized webcomics and novels. Tapas has 3.1 million monthly unique readers, who collectively spend more than 118 million minutes per month on Tapas. Stories on Tapas have been read over 6.7 billion times to date. About 70% of our audience is female millennials primarily located in the US, and the Tapas app is one of the top-grossing comics apps on iOS and Android. Beyond being a premier open publishing platform, we also co-produce original IP with our top creators through Studio Tapas. We then shop these properties alongside our creators to adapt them into the next hit TV series, movies, games, physical books, and more. Our goal is to help support independent creators by providing easy to use publishing tools, sustainable forms of revenue, and connecting them with readers from all over the world. Tapas has a fun collaborative culture that's reflective of the creative storytelling business that we're in. We're seeking to hire a Freelance Translator to localize Korean web comics into English. The translation work includes but not limited to dialogue, sound effects, and signage on multiple projects. Please note we are looking for an independent contractor that will devote a specific amount of time as this will be a fixed monthly contract. What Freelance Translators Do: Create and update the name list of all characters and locations, as well as significant series specific jargon Translate all Korean text into English including but not limited to dialogue, sound effects and signage Work cooperatively with the localization team, making edits as necessary Communicate with internal members about any relevant progress or issues through designated team channels Freelance Translators Expertise High level proficiency in Korean and English languages as well as cultural fluency in both Korean as well as the culture of our audience (mostly American) Excellent communicator who maintains friendly, timely, communications with a diverse array of teammates across a variety of timezones and differing project schedules Familiarity with Slack, google docs, and digital storage platforms like DropBox, a plus Experience working within a collaborative team-based environment Ability to manage time effectively and adhere to strict deadlines A love of storytelling and a respect for the storytellers whose work we are helping to share!
